MERCER – Rudolph J. Martin, 84, formally of Mexico, died Oct. 26, 2010 at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

Born in Rumford, September 14, 1926, the son of Patrick and Mary (Richard) Martin.

He worked on shrimp boats from Maine to California, was a self-employed painter, and a crane operator in the pulp and paper industry. Rudolph was a member of AA for 33 years, St. Therese’s Church in Mexico, VFW in Rumford, and Snowshoe Club. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and played the violin and banjo with a bluegrass band that played in various places around the Rumford area for many years.

He is survived by 2 sons; Stephen R. Martin and wife Angela of Litchfield, Roland J. Martin and wife Shannon of Jacksonville, Florida; 5 daughters, Janice M. Martin of Mexico, Maine, Carol M. Martin of Lisbon Falls, Cynthia J. Gibson and husband James of Mercer, Sharon A. Martin of Mercer, Marianne R. Cyr and husband Arthur of Rumford; 4 sisters, Dorothy M. Bernard and husband Edgar of Rumford, Dorina A. Bernard and husband Olin of Rumford, Annie M. Papsadora of Rumford, and Alice M. Cerenowicz and companion Deforest Benjamin of Spring Hill, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Rudolph is predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Edmund and Henry Martin.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Parish of the Holy Savior (formally St. Athanasius & St. John Catholic Church) 126 Main Ave. Rumford. Father Phil celebrant.
