MERCER – Sarah A. “Sally” (Boyden) Dubay, 71, wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2010 after a lifelong battle with diabetes and heart disease.

Born April 2, 1939 in South Windham, Maine, Sally was the daughter of Earle P. and Doris V. (Cottle) Boyden. Sally was a 1957 graduate of Windham High School and a year later on Nov. 22, 1958, married her husband of 52 years, Leo P. “Paul” Dubay. She worked for many years in Southern Maine and then later in Skowhegan for First National Supermarkets.

In 1975, she took on the full time job of mom to her daughter Sarah. Throughout Sarah’s childhood, Sally was an active community volunteer in Mercer, Maine. She was a 4-H Club leader, helped with Girl Scouts and Skowhegan Area High School Band Boosters, and was a member of the Mercer Historical Society and Old Home Days Committee. Mom was always there –

taking me to music lessons and sports practices, helping with me my homework (even through two masters degrees), doing lots of cooking and cleaning, and planning adventures throughout the state of Maine to learn more about history, find a great shopping deal, or the best ice cream. Her support of me and my dad never wavered, even over the last few years as her illness worsened. Losing Mom is a void that will never be filled.”

Sally is survived by her husband Paul of Mercer; her daughter Sarah and her partner Brian of Dover-Foxcroft; one brother, John Boyden, his wife Kathy, and their children Steven, Sheila and Christopher of South Windham; three aunts, Elaine Lodge of Eastport, Patricia Cottle of Massachusetts, and Clarice Carter of New Gloucester; sisters-in-law: Rolande Cyr of Limington, Lillian Stiller of South Portland, Novella Bartol of Wisconsin, brother-in-laws Ivan Dubay and his wife Evelyn of Alabama and Gerry Dubay and his wife Bev of Saco; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sally will also be missed by her lifelong friend, Patricia Buck of Windham.

She will be interred this spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, Sally always wanted donations to be made in support of research of juvenile diabetes. Donations can be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Chapter, 80 Elm Street, Portland, Maine, 04101. Condolences and tributes may be shared with her family at www.wilesrc.com. Cremation services are being provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington.
