FARMINGTON – Susan A. Upham, 56, of New Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Farmington, April 8, 1953, a daughter of Keith and Elizabeth (Betty Hawes) Alexander and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1971. She later attended nursing school and became a licensed practical nurse working at Thayer Hospital and later at Sandy River Nursing Care Center in Farmington.

Susan was a member of the Fairbanks Union Church where she served God with her singing in the choir. She was active with her daughter in the Mountain View Horse Club through 4-H and the Crystal Lake Riders Horse Club. She was an active supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay-for-Life after surviving breast cancer as a young woman. In recent years, she volunteered at Franklin Memorial Hospital in the mailroom and wherever her talents were needed.

Susan spent her spare time reading Sci-Fi books and doing crafts. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed spending time with her horses, cats, and dogs. She also loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Mel and her fiancé Raymond Merchant of New Sharon; father, Keith Alexander of Fairbanks; sister Ann Forbes and her husband Wesley “Skip” of Chesterville; aunt, Sandra Lord of Saco; two nephews, Eric Forbes and his wife Jessica of Fairbanks and Aaron Forbes of Chesterville; great niece, Brooklyn Forbes of Chesterville; She was predeceased by her mother, Betty Alexander and both maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm from the Fairbanks Union Church with Rev. C. Scott Planting, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington.
