FARMINGTON – Sylvia Davis Jones, 83, of Temple, died Saturday evening, October 30, 2010, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center, Farmington, with family at her side.

She was born May 6, 1927, in Winthrop, a daughter of Stephen and Phyllis Virginia (Burr) Belden, Sr. She was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1945. For a brief time, she was employed by the U.S. government and worked at the State House in Augusta. On March 29, 1947, she married Kenneth Roland Jones, Sr., in Winthrop.

A devoted wife and mother, she was also dedicated to serving her community. She was a member of the Good Neighbor Club in Temple, served as a representative on the MSAD  9 School Board, was active in the former PTA and was a member of the Temple Firemen’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association.

In her free time, she enjoyed needlework, gardening, and having family get-togethers where she would often make a batch of her special homemade spaghetti sauce. She and her husband raised four boys and she joyfully welcomed the addition of their wives into the family. A loving grandmother, she was always interested in the activities and interests of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth R. Jones, Sr. of Temple; four sons: Kenneth R. Jones, Jr. and his wife, Kelly of Temple; Lawrence R. “Lonny” Jones and his wife, Starr of Weld and Winterhaven, Florida; Douglas E. Jones and his wife, Shery of Farmington and Leon F. Jones and his wife, Janet of W. Long Beach, CA.; two sisters: Josephine B. Buzzell of Tennessee and Ethel B. Maxim and her husband, George of Winthrop; one brother, Walter Belden and his wife, Crystal of Winthrop.; grandson: Lawrence “Lonny” Jones, Jr.; step-grandson: Warren E. Dyke; grandchildren: Amy Vaterlaus, Melissa Plourde, Bethany Cormier and Jerry Jones; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by an infant son, Gerald Carl Jones; a grandson Jacob Jones; her twin brother, Stephen Belden, Jr.; and sisters Gertrude B. Fish and Francis B. Grant.

Family memorial graveside committal services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. from Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop.
