Vivien Edith Saltmarsh Marcellino (1918-2010)

FARMINGTON – Vivien Edith Saltmarsh Marcellino, 92, of New Sharon, died peacefully early Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2010, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington after struggling bravely with COPD for several years.

She was born in Boston, MA, a daughter of Vivian Wilbert Saltmarsh and Clara Krauth. She received her education in Milton schools and was married to Edward Sager. They made their home in Milton for many years before his death in 1944. In 1954, she married Dr. Samuel Edward Marcellino and they lived in Milton for many years as well as Raymond, Maine, before his death in 1979. She then lived in Lowell, MA for several years & moved to New Sharon in 1992.

Viv worked as homemaker and for Priscilla’s of Boston for many years as a model and bridal consultant. She enjoyed the beach, swimming, sunbathing, golf and knitting and was known for her sweaters, mittens and slippers. She loved flower gardening, decorating and going to auctions and as a result, became an expert on American antiques. Viv was very proud to have recently completed her Saltmarsh family genealogy after nearly a lifetime of research and leaves it as a lasting legacy to her descendants.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Hermon Saltmarsh of Nashua, N.H.; children: Samuel Edward Marcellino, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Bexley, OH; Katherine Byrne Duggan of Brookline, MA; Donna Maria Marcellino of Olympia,WA; Lora Elizabeth Sheptyck and her husband, David of Eastham, MA; and Thomas Trower Marcellino and his wife Rocell of New Sharon; 10 grandchildren, Samuel Marcellino III, Amy Duggan, Priscilla Perkins, Lora Perkins, Anthony Perkins, Whitney Eng, Elizabeth Sheptyck, Katherine Sheptyck, Benjamin Marcellino and Joshua Marcellino; 9 great grandchildren Maeve Laslie, Astrid Brunk, Elliot Brunk, Samuel Perkins, Lillian Perkins, Imogen Perkins and Agnes Perkins, Thomas Eng and Charles Eng; a niece Priscilla Saltmarsh Davis and her husband Paul; a grand nephew Robert Bryant. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jan Sager Smith and a grand daughter Sarah Holden.

Public graveside memorial services followed by a celebration of her life will be held in July at the New Sharon Village Cemetery and at the Milton Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 550 Industry Road, Farmington, ME 04938 or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, Second Floor, Bethesda, MD 20814.
