Wesley Oreson Lane, Jr. (1935-2011)

FARMINGTON – Wesley Oreson Lane, Jr., 75, a resident of Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Canton, formerly of North Jay, died Sunday Jan. 2, 2011 at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, with family by his side.

Due to his health issues of both Alzheimers and Parkinson’s Disease, he moved to the Villa in October of 2009. His family is most grateful for the quality of compassionate care he received.

He was born Dec. 10, 1935, in Chesterville, the son of Wesley O. and
Laura (Savage) Lane, Sr. He attended Chesterville and Wilton schools and
was a 1955 graduate of Wilton Academy. From 1956-1960, he served in the
United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Washington State,
California and Hawaii. On June 30, 1962, he married Mavis Storer in North
Jay.

For 38 years, he was a handsewer and bottom cementer at G. H. Bass. He
was an active member of the community and enjoyed his civic responsibilities. He was a member of the Wilton Masonic Lodge #156 of Wilton and twice had served as the Master of the Lodge. He was also a member of the N. Jay Grange, Excelsior, Pomona, State and National Granges.

He was a member of the Bartlett Memorial United Methodist Church, N. Jay and was a member of several area snowmobile clubs as well as the Senior Bowling League. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed being in the company of his family and close friends. Most recently, he was grateful for being home for the Christmas holidays and attending church services with his family and longtime friends.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mavis, of N. Jay; two sons: Darryl Oreson Lane and his wife, Charlotte of Industry and David Emery Lane and his wife, Penny of Gettysburg, PA.; one daughter, Tammy Lynn Lane of Farmington; four grandchildren: Carrie Gueydan and her husband, Jessie; Nathaniel “Nate” Lane and his wife, Brianna; Jason Clement and his friend Kathryn Meyer and Justin Lane; two great grandchildren: Wyatt David Lane and Lilith Rose Gueydan; a brother Raymond Lane and his wife, Judy of N. Jay; two sisters Barbara Crossman and her husband, Gordon of Jacksonville, NC; and Mabel Cox and her husband, Bob of Chesterville; uncle Roger Lane of Fayette.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Harley Lane and two nephews Randall “Randy” Lane and Mark Crossman.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, Wednesday afternoon and evening, Jan. 5, 2011, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Public Masonic services, conducted by the Wilton Masonic Lodge 156 AF & AM will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Center. Full military honors will be provided by Camp Keyes. Following services, all are invited to a family reception at the Masonic Lodge Hall in East Wilton.
