William J. Maillet (1943-2010)

AUGUSTA – William J. “Bill” Maillet, 67, of South Carthage, died Sunday afternoon, May 30, 2010 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta.

He was born on Apr. 25, 1943, in Wilton, the son of, Alfred and Ida (Babineau) Maillet. He attended local schools earning his diploma from Stephens High School in Rumford.

On July 27, 1963 he married, Sharon Hatch in Gorham, NH. They made their home in South Carthage where Bill ran his business, W.J. Maillet Excavation.

When not on a job, Bill could be found enjoying the company of friends at the local coffee shop or service station. He loved his work very much but also enjoyed woodworking and remodeling projects around the house.

He was a former member of the Farmington Elks Lodge.

Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Sharon Maillet of South Carthage; a daughter, Laurie Smith and her husband, Russell of South Carthage; a son, Scott Maillet of Chesterville; siblings, Geraldine Fournier of Jay, Danny Maillet and his wife, Lorraine of Wilton, Sidney Maillet and his companion, Joan Wheeler of Chesterville and Jack Maillet and his companion, Sally Prince of Sabattus; three grandchildren, Anthony Smith, Jonathan Smith and Michael Maillet; a great grandson, Austin Conrad Mayberry. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother-in-law, Ed Fournier.

A gathering of family and friends will be held, 2 p.m., Sunday, June 13 at Bill and Sharon’s home in South Carthage. Gifts may be given in Bill’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
