Letter to the Editor: Candidate Haszko deserves our vote

2 mins read

There seems to be some opponents of Dennis Haszko, candidate for House District 89, who don’t believe he has established enough roots in the Farmington-Industry district to properly represent its constituents. There is a good deal of evidence to the contrary.

Dennis and his wife Ruth have been involved in the community since 1997 when they bought their first home on Perham Street. They have two children in local schools and are active volunteers in their church.

During this 12-year period, Dennis has served on the Comprehensive Planning Committee. The Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine has given him an “A” rating for his views on protecting and assuring access to our forests and waterways.

Involvement with our youth has been ongoing for Dennis. He has coached youth baseball, been a Mallett School volunteer, lectured in student classes and volunteered for field trips.

An important area of service to the community is his board membership and service to S.A.V.E.S. (Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services) for which he has been highly praised, even by some of his political opponents.

Based on these contributions, Dennis surely demonstrates a high degree of willingness to serve his community, district and State.

As to the likelihood of Dennis being an effective legislator, his academic and career background and occupation as a patent practitioner show he has a proven ability to initiate and foster innovative ideas. From my experience as professor of administrative science and from service on several governing boards, both public and private, I know these abilities are requisites of successful organizations and essential to job creation. These skills are desperately needed in Augusta, especially in the current economic climate.

For the above reasons, and in addition to his well-recognized consensus-making approach to problems, Dennis should be given the opportunity to contribute these skills at the State level.

For the record, I am a native of Franklin County, a resident of Farmington, and a registered Republican. In the spirit of bi-partisanship and because he is clearly the better qualified candidate for the District 89 House seat, Dennis R. Haszko deserves our vote on Feb. 3.
