Letter to the Editor: Soccer season a tremendous success

2 mins read

On behalf of the board of the Western Mountain Youth Soccer Association I would like to thank everyone who helped make the second fall season of outdoor recreational soccer a tremendous success. This year we had 170 youths from kindergarten to sixth grade participating and it seems a great time was had by all.

This success required help from many areas. Of course, the kids and their parents showed energy and enthusiasm throughout. Also, it would never have worked without great student-athletes from Mount Abram High School who gave generously of their time and experience in working with the kids. The adults who officiated, coached, and administered the program gave unselfishly of free time they have so little of.

A huge thank you also goes out to the people whose many years of groundwork and refinement of this kind of program enabled us to start up so quickly and with so few initial problems: the Farmington Recreation Department. Steve Shible and Joe Nelson have given abundantly of their time through personal meetings, phone calls, and copies of written materials they had created and we were able to use for our program with minimal change. Without the long history of Farmington Recreation in conducting outdoor and indoor soccer programs our work would have been enormously more difficult.

Thanks again to everyone and we all look forward to continued success in our indoor and outdoor programs.

President, Western Mountain Youth Soccer Association
