The webinar is titled “Saving Seabirds: New Lessons from Puffins,” with Dr. Stephen Kress. Dr. Kress, a well-known author and seabird expert, will draw on his experience with puffins to discuss ways people can help bring seabirds back to some of their historic nesting places. He will also share insights into the changing marine climate of the Gulf of Maine. This presentation—which is open to the general public—will begin with a general overview of the evolution, ecology, and behavior of damselflies and dragonflies (Order Odonata). This will be followed by a brief survey of some of Maine’s 161 known odonate species. The talk, titled “Loons,” will be presented by Dr. Mark Pokras, a well-known expert in loon studies. It will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14th at UMF’s Thomas Auditorium in Preble Hall. Dr. Pokras, a graduate of Cornell and Tufts University, will be speaking on new research findings concerning loons. These findings include new information about the behavior of loons, their reactions to environmental stress, and threats to their well-being. Dr. Pokras is a retired member of the faculty at Tufts. He
