CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – Carrabassett Valley Academy held its annual Big Raffle and Auction on Saturday, Feb. 23. The event raised over $40,000 to support scholarships for CVA students.

Despite a light but persistent snowfall, turnout was excellent with 350 raffle tickets being sold. The night was highlighted by the drawing of the 30 raffle prizes, including the $10,000 grand prize won by David and Nancy Turner of Raymond, Maine.

Guests were also treated to birthday cake in honor of CVA’s 30th anniversary and a brief talk by current CVA student, Liz Mutina who spoke about the importance of scholarship support in the pursuit of her dreams.

Many CVA alumni were in attendance, including owner of First Inline Sports, Birch Royal ’93 who presented longtime Sugarloafer, Lev Steeves with a brand new pair of Stockli skis to honor and thank him for his years of volunteering for the Sugarloaf Ski Club and the Sugarloaf Competition Center and supporting ski and snowboard competitions at Sugarloaf.

“Nearly half of all CVA students receive scholarship aid,” said Head of School, Kate Webber Punderson, “That’s why this fund raiser is so important. On behalf of the entire CVA community, I want to thank everyone who participated in making this event a success. Without the support of so many – from the raffle ticket buyers, auction bidders, sponsors and donors – we would not be able to provide vital financial support to our deserving student-athletes.”
