MADRID TOWNSHIP – This Saturday (May 26), there will be a workday on the Fly Rod Crosby Trail and you are all invited! We will work on signing and clearing the final section of corridor in Madrid. This is a beautiful 1 mile segment of trail that follows Hardy Stream almost to its source. This is a great opportunity to see abundant wildlife, meet new people and enjoy the stream. The work will include moving light brush, clipping and painting blazes on trees. Meet at the trail head in the field below Star Barn Bed and Breakfast at 9:00am. We will work until we want to quit!
What you should bring:
1) sturdy boots, work clothes and work gloves
2) hand tools if you have any and want to bring them (If you do not have any we can provide)
3) A bag lunch
4) A smile!
Directions to Star Barn B&B
Take Rt 4 to Madrid TWP, turn onto Reeds Mill Road and cross the Sandy River, go 4.5 miles and park at trail head on the left (after the Star Barn B&B)
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, May 29, at the Phillips Public Library from 5-6pm to learn about the Fly Rod Crosby Trail, a brand new trail which will eventually stretch 45 miles from Strong to Oquossoc and is based on the life and times of Cornelia “Fly Rod” Crosby, Maine’s first registered guide. Directions to the Library: From the West and South: take Rt. 4 to Phillips, turn onto Rt 142 and then right on Main Street. The Library is in the Paul G. Whittemore Building on your right after Sanders Auto. From the North: take Rt 142 to Phillips, go straight on Main Street where Rt 142 turns right and merges with Rt 4. The Whittemore Building is on your right after Sander’s Auto.
