CASTLETON, VT – Nicole Adams recorded five goals and four assists in leading the Castleton women’s lacrosse team to a 20-2 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference match-up. The Spartans now have won their last six contests.

Castleton (7-1) had nine players enter the scoring column. Adams started the scoring 46 seconds into the game, putting home a pass from Stephanie Pearce. Adams returned the favor on the next goal, assisting Pearce to go up 2-0 at the 26:15 mark of the first half. Marie VanDerKar netted her first goal of the game for Castleton with 23:43 remaining. Aimee Goulette found the back of the net thanks to another helper by Pearce 29 seconds later. Pearce then scored on a free position
opportunity to put the Spartans ahead 5-0.

Amie Daniels finally put the Beavers on the scoreboard with her first goal of the season with 22:08 left until half.

The Spartans quickly squandered any hope for UMF (0-3) to climb back into the game as Angelica Mazzola scored 10 seconds later to go up-6-1.

Castleton would score the next seven goals to end the half with a comfortable lead of 13-1. Kristen Rockler and Stephanie Paproski scored goals during the run while Pearce, VanDerKar, Adams and Goulette continued to carve up the Beaver defense.

UMF scored the first goal of the second half thanks to a free position goal at 26:46 by Kaeleigh Barker, her first of the season.

Castleton scored the last seven goals of the contest to put the Beavers away 20-2. Elizabeth Haggerty and Jennifer Macari joined in on the scoring for the Spartans. VanDerKar scored her team-leading 33rd goal of the season.

Castleton outplayed the Beavers in every aspect of the game. The Spartans enjoyed a draw control advantage of 17-7 and forced 34 turnovers. They also converted 14 of 17 clear attempts.

Francesca Mazzola got the win for the Spartans, making four saves in the first half. Rebecca Duszak relieved Mazzola in the second half.

Ashley Wentworth made four first-half stops in the losing effort for the Beavers. Andrea Knox came into the game at the half and had three stops of her own.
