CASTLETON, VT-Courtney Chadburn scored her 17th goal of the season to lead Castleton State College to a 1-0 win over University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s soccer action at Alumni Field.

Chadburn struck for the game-winning goal in the 40th minute of play, and the Castleton defense stymied the Beavers to earn their third consecutive shut-out win. Chadburn took a pass from Kelly Gerken and sent a rocket into the upper-90 from 20 yards out.

The Castleton defense, led by Carisa Chadburn, held the Beavers at bay for much of the contest, allowing just three shots. Marking backs Katie Hoxsie, Kirstin Holmgren and Emma Deis were superb as Farmington began to press during the final 10 minutes of play.

Mckell Barnes took the loss in goal for Farmington, stopping nine shots as the Beavers fall to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Cady Kerin stopped all three shots that came her way in the Castleton goal, earning the shut-out.

Farmington is off until Oct. 9 when the Beavers travel to Becker College for a 6 pm non-conference game.
