Eagles over Beavers 14-12, 10-2

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Husson University 14-12, 10-3 Saturday at Hippach Field.

The Beavers slipped to 4-18 overall and 3-11 in the NAC, while the Eagles upped their mark to 25-11 (11-3). The two teams are scheduled to meet Sunday for another twinbill. First pitch is tabbed for noon.

In the opener, Nick Arthers (Belfast, ME) and Dennis Graham (Miramichi, New Brunswick) each collected three hits and four RBIs as Husson outlasted Farmington 14-12.

Graham singled, doubled and homered in the victory with Arthers singling twice and doubling. Husson broke out to a 7-0 lead over the first two innings, but the Beavers knocked the lead down to 7-5 after four frames. Graham, Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, ME) and Chris Maguire (Bucksport, ME) each slammed a two-run homer for a six-run fifth inning to take a 13-5 advantage.

Ryan Arsenault (Portland, ME) snatched the win with five innings of work including two walks and two strikeouts.

Kyle Shea (Bar Harbor, ME) singled, doubled and drove in four runs for Farmington with Josh Garneau (South Portland, ME) doubling and hitting a solo home run, Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) singling and hitting a two-run blast and Matt Levine (Pelham, NH) singling, doubling and plating two runs. Down 14-8 entering the bottom of the seventh, Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) had a RBI groundout and Hanson and Garneau homered to helped the Beavers tightened the final score.

Brandon Gallagher (North Yarmouth, ME) took the loss with five free passes and two strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

In the nightcap, the Eagles used four hits and two Farmington errors in the fourth to push across four runs on their way to the 10-3 victory.

The Beavers held a 3-2 edge after three innings, but Ethan Guerette (Wales, ME) and Maguire each had an RBI hit in the fourth to lead Husson to a 6-3 lead. The Eagles padded their lead with one run in the sixth and three in the seventh for the seven-run margin.

Graham clubbed a two-run home run in game two, while Nick Arthers and Jake Arthers (Belfast, ME) each had a pair of singles and an RBI.

Nathan Adams (Frankfort, ME) hurled a complete game for the win. The freshman walked three and struck out six.

Garneau had an RBI single for the Beavers, while Shea added a sacrifice fly.

Craig Pendleton (Saco, ME) was hit with the defeat with six walks and three strikeouts over five-plus innings on the mound.
