FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team is scheduled to open its inaugural varsity season Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Beavers are scheduled to face the University of Southern Maine at Deering High School’s Memorial Field in Portland.

After several years as a club program, the Beavers are competing in the NCAA Division III and the North Atlantic Conference this season. The roster features 18 players.

“As a first-year varsity program, we have a strong core of veteran players who are excited to finally be able to compete at this level,” said head coach Molly Wilkie. “They are supported by some newcomers to the sport who have excelled in soccer, field hockey and volleyball. Our goal is to see improvement every day. Our success won’t necessarily be determined by wins and losses, but by the progress of technical and tactical skills and the ability to unite as a team.”

Junior attack wing Lucy Sargent (York, ME) and freshman center Amie Daniels (Lewiston, ME) will lead the attack for the Beavers. Sophomore Andrea Knox (North Waterboro, ME) will man the pips for Farmington with junior Jessie LaCasse (Marston Mills, MA) and freshman Devon Daigle (Lewiston, ME) at the defensive wings and junior Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) also on defense and serving as the backup netminder.

Seniors Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) and Emily Theriault (Wells, ME), sophomores Corinne Vierkant (North Berwick, ME), Emily Beebe (Bristol, RI) and Amanda Lepage (Limerick, ME) and freshman Marilyn Grabowski (Topsham, ME) also contributing on the attack with juniors Kara Hudson (Wells, ME), Lauren Proceviat (Foxboro, MA) and Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME), sophomore Julie Sexton (Manchester, ME) and freshmen Michelle Daige (Sanford, ME) and Eryn Neptune (Readfield, ME) playing in the midfield.

The Beavers’ home opener is scheduled for April 11 at 3 p.m. vs. Husson University. Farmington is scheduled to play its home matches at Prescott Field.
