Field hockey cruises past Thomas

FARMINGTON – Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) notched a hat trick with Andrea Tyler (Augusta, ME) assisting on each score as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team trounced Thomas College 8-0 in non-conference action at Prescott Field on Wednesday.

The Beavers (3-3) are scheduled to return to action this weekend when they travel to Massachusetts to visit Lasell (Saturday) and Simmons (Sunday). The Terriers (1-5) are slated to make the same trip with Simmons on Saturday and Lasell Sunday.

Elyse Cole (Winthrop, ME) and Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) each netted a pair of goals for the Beavers, who outshot the Terriers 27-5. Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) added a goal, while Erika Lucas (Augusta, ME) and Jennifer Bernhardt (Vassalboro, ME) each assisted on a score in the victory.

Farmington bolted into a 4-0 lead over the opening 15 minutes with Deans and Wentworth each collecting two tallies. The Thomas defense stood up for the rest of the opening half with the Beavers possessing a 4-0 advantage at the break.

Deans completed her hat trick early in the second half with Cole adding two scores — one off a penalty corner – and St. Pierre finished a Bernhardt feed to complete the scoring at 8-0.

Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH) and Sarah Brown (Windham, ME) shared netminding duties for the Beavers with Brown stopping a pair of shots in the second half. Farmington held a 19-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Meg Denby (Copiague, NY) stopped 12 shots for the Terriers.
