Mt. Blue baseball drops first 3 games; home opener today

FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue looks for its first win of the season this afternoon at Hippach Field in its home opener against Hamden High School at 4 pm.

The Cougars have shown good starting pitching, despite injury that has kept staff ace Dylan Vining from the mound. Junior Jimmy Neal pitched well in losses to both Messalonskee and Brewer, and Mt. Abram transfer Josh Smith held Erskine Academy scoreless for five innings.

But, in each game, the Cougars were undone by walks, inconsistent relief pitching and base running mistakes that either fueled big innings for the opposition or snuffed out potential Mt. Blue rallies.

On offense, senior co-captain Alec Wallace is batting over .500 with two doubles and a home run. Shane Smith and Alex Witt are the Cougar’s other captains, and are joined by fellow seniors Jason Levitt and Kyle Fletcher.
