Neil, Lelansky lead men’s basketball by Lyndon

FARMINGTON – Ted Neil (Strong, ME) and Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) each collected career bests scoring as the University of Maine at Farmington men’s basketball team rolled past Lyndon State College 82-56 in North Atlantic Conference action today at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Neil scored 26 points, including an 8-for-12 afternoon from 3-point range, while Lelansky tallied 20 points with four treys as the Beavers improved to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to visit Bates College Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Hornets slipped to 6-6 (2-2).

Following Neil and Lelansky, Pat Howell (Nobleboro, ME) and Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) each recorded eight points and 11 rebounds. The Beavers handled the Hornets off the glass, outrebounding the visitors 53-33. Andrew Dean (Gorham, ME) dished out six assists in the win with Lelansky and Howell each doling out five.

Cesar Martinez (East Harlem, NY) led Lyndon with 17 points, while Brad Durr (Windham, CT) provided 16 points. The Hornets were held to 31.3 percent shooting (20 of 64), including 24 percent from 3-point range (6 of 25).

The Beavers never trailed in the contest, but the game was knotted at 9-9 when the Beavers went on a 10-2 run — highlighted by a pair of Neil threes — to take a 19-11 lead 10 minutes into the game. The lead grew to 11, but Martinez scored Lyndon’s final nine points of the half, including a trey at the buzzer, as Farmington took a 39-33 edge into halftime.

An 11-0 tear with Neil hitting 3-pointers on three straight trips allowed the Beavers to expand their advantage to 54-36 four minutes in the second half. With a game at 59-43, Farmington went on a 7-0 run — five points by Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) — to build a 66-43 cushion on its way to the 82-56 rout.
