FARMINGTON – Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) and Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) each notched a double-double as the University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team finished its regular season with a 71-60 victory over Johnson State College in North Atlantic Conference action today at Carter Gym.

The Beavers (15-10 overall, 12-2 in the NAC) are the second seed in the NAC tournament and receive a bye to the semifinals. Farmington awaits the winner of Tuesday’s quarterfinal between Johnson State (10-15, 5-9) and Castleton (14-11, 9-5). The semifinal will be played Friday at No. 1 Husson University.

Porter scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Laflin tallied 17 points and posted 10 boards. Brittany York (Strong, ME) chipped in 12 points for the Beavers with Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) making six steals to spearhead the defense.

Staci Cutting scored 16 points to lead Johnson State with Claudia Martineau adding 14 points and Ashley Bryce supplying 11 points off the bench.

Laflin scored 13 points and Porter chipped in 11 points as the Beavers built a 41-33 halftime lead. Behind four points each by York and Samantha Wiley (Lincolnville, ME), Farmington pushed its command to 51-37 with 14:40 left to play.

The Badgers chopped at the lead throughout the second half and knocked it down to 63-60 on a Cutting three with 2:45 remaining in the contest. The Beavers followed with the game’s next eight points — a Laflin layup and a pair of foul shots each by Byrne, Porter and Wiley — to finish off the 71-60 victory.
