FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team was handled by Bowdoin College 78-41 in non-conference action tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers dropped to 3-7 and are scheduled to visit Plymouth State University Thursday, while the Polar Bears ran their record to 10-2 with a trip to Bates College on Thursday.

Sabrina Cote (Dexter, ME) paced Bowdoin with 17 points as the Polar Bears used a pair of runs in the opening half to distance themselves from the Beavers. Alexa Kaubris (Rumford, ME) scored nine points in the win and spearheaded the defense with four steals as Farmington was held to 22.6 percent shooting (seven of 31) from the field prior to intermission and made 26 turnovers in the contest.

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) led Farmington with 11 points, while Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) pitched in eight points.

The two teams battled over the opening 10 minutes before the Polar Bears ripped off a 9-0 run over a minute span — capped by a Cote 3-pointer — to take command of the game at 20-7 with 9:32 until halftime. After back-to-back layups by Busque and Brittany York (Strong, ME) cooled Bowdoin, the Polar Bears went on another 9-0 stretch to expand the lead to 29-11 and take a 37-20 command into intermission.

Another 9-0 run in the second half allowed the Polar Bears to expand the lead to 25 points and the visitors held the Beavers scoreless over the final 5:19 of the game to roll to the 78-41 victory.
