UMF field hockey players honored

FARMINGTON – Ten members of the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team were honored today as on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad.

The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.

Samantha Kenison (Gorham, NH) headlined the Beavers’ honorees as the senior was a four-year award recipient. Other Farmington players honored were Kaeleigh Barker (Chichester, NH), Jennifer Bernhardt (Vassalboro, ME), Ariel Cohen (Yarmouthport, MA), Emma Deans (Gorham, ME), Jessie Lacasse (Marston Mills, MA), Erika Lucas (Augusta, ME), Bethany Marshall (York, ME), Ashley Weeks (Wilton, ME) and Ashley Wyman (South China, ME).

Earlier this week, the team was honored with the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s Division III National Academic Award. The award is presented to teams achieving a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the season. The Beavers were one of 97 NCAA Division III teams to receive the honor. This is the sixth straight season that the Beavers have been a recipient of the award.
