FARMINGTON – Last weekend brought both the University of Maine at Farmington men’s and women’s rugby seasons to a close. The men played host to the always well-coached Bowdoin College team and bested them at the end of a wide-open match by a score of 42-22.

The UMF men were led by a hard-rucking scrum that featured the standout play of Quinn Fogerty, Greg Parachojuk and Dom Cognata, and a backline spearheaded by the play of flyhalf Killian Miller and the always hard-running Jack Neary and Matt Scremin.

For the season, the UMF men finished with a record of 3 wins, 2 losses and a draw, and they are already pointing toward a more successful spring when they are faced with the double-barreled task of defending their 2016 Championships at both the Maine Cup and the Beast of the East Tourney in Rhode Island.

The UMF women finished the regular season with a 2-2 record, good enough to earn them a spot in last Sunday’s conference championship in Johnson, Vermont. It was unfortunately not the women’s day as they fell first to Colby-Sawyer College by a 17-0 score and then 26-10 to the host Johnson State College team in the consolation final.

The women were led all afternoon long by captain Emily Gray, and the hard tackling trio of Erin Hartford, Jubilee Macleod and Audrey Kahrs.

The UMF women will also put away their cleats for a while, but they will also be getting to work on their own strength and fitness training to be ready to do some damage of their own when the spring rugby tourney season rolls around.
