UMF player garners regional honors

FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore catcher/first baseman Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-New England Third Team as announced by the NFCA Monday night.

Barnes led the team in batting at .527(48-91), while establishing program single-season records in runs scored (33), home runs (13) and runs batted in (44). The sophomore also holds the program career home run record at 18.

Named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and an All-NAC First Teamer, Barnes led the league hitting .595 at the plate (25-42) with a .654 on base percentage during conference play. She was among the leaders in slugging percentage (1.071), runs batted in (19) and home runs (4) helping Farmington to a 10-4 conference mark.

The lone conference representative on the All-New England teams, Barnes also received NAC All-Tournament honors at last weekend’s championship round at Husson University.

The Beavers finished their season at 17-13.
