Women’s Soccer: UMF 2, Johnson St. 0
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team ended its regular season with a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Johnson State College Saturday at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (5-9-3 overall, 4-4-1 NAC) and Badgers (8-5-2, 3-4-2) await the NAC postseason seedings.

Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine) and Katie Emmons (South Berwick, Maine) each netted a goal for UMF with Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine) assisting on both scores.

After a scoreless first half, Peake broke through at 60:26 when she finished off Amador’s push ahead. Amador’s pass was blocked to Peake, whose blast gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead.

Emmons added insurance with her first collegiate goal at 65:29. Amador set up Emmons, whose shot lofted into the air and descended out of the reach of Johnson St. goalkeeper Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt.).

Crystal Johnson (Cornville, Maine) recorded the shutout for the Beavers with six saves, including a diving stop in each half. Johnson along with senior classmates Abbey Gilbert (Wilton, Maine), Jen Richter (Lamoine, Maine) and Danica Wilson (Sidney, Maine) were playing in their final regular season game at Prescott Field.

McCullock made nine saves for the Badgers, who were outshot 17-8. UMF also took 10 corner kicks to Johnson State’s 3.

Men’s Soccer: UMF 3, Johnson St. 1
FARMINGTON – Paul Dupre (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Michael Kelly (Norton, Mass.) each registered a goal and an assist as the University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team notched a 3-1 win over Johnson State College in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (8-7 overall, 5-3 NAC) are scheduled to host Thomas College Tuesday at 3 p.m. in their regular season finale. The Badgers closed out their regular season at 4-11-1 (1-8).

Dupre drilled a free kick to open the scoring at 11:31, but the Badgers responded by a Ryan Demars (Morrisville, Vt.) header off a Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) indirect kick at 40:15 to tie the match at 1-1. Two minutes later, Kelly headed in a Dupre boot to give UMF the 2-1 edge at intermission.

Jordan Hale (Falmouth, Maine) gave the hosts breathing room at 72:03 when he fired a rocket from the top of the box off Kelly’s upfield push to make the lead 3-1.

Derek Reilly (Hollis, N.H.) recorded six saves for the Beavers. UMF outshot the Badgers 27-11 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Ryan Belen (Northvale, N.J.) started and finished the game between the pipes for Johnson St. Belenn made six saves in 50:26, while Patrick Fuller (Stowe, Vt.) stopped four shots in 39:34.

Volleyball: Beavers pick up pair of wins to end regular season
CASTLETON, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s volleyball team closed out its regular season by defeating host Castleton State College 3-0 and Green Mountain College 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference matches Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers (13-9 overall, 5-2 NAC) await the NAC postseason seedings.

UMF 3, Green Mountain 1

UMF overcame a slow start, before rallying and defeating Green Mountain 3-1.

The Beavers trailed 21-16 in the opening set, but battled back and ended up taking the first set 25-23. UMF built off the momentum and easily dispatched GMC in the second set, 25-19 before Green Mountain cleaned up their mistakes and stormed back, drawing to 2-1 by winning the third set 25-19. The fourth set was a back and forth affair, with both teams having small leads, before UMF capitalized on a couple of Green Mountain miscues and then put away the set and the match, 25-19.

Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) posted 11 kills to lead the Beavers, who also got outstanding play from the setting duo of Bridget Flaherty (Plymouth, Mass.) and Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, Maine), who posted 13 and 12 assists, respectively.

Kara Egan had led Green Mountain with eleven kills, while Madison Wage and Chanleigh Casey each added eight for the Eagles. Jennifer Seredjko tallied 22 assists in the loss.

UMF 3, Castleton 0

Behind 11 kills from Mitchell, the Beavers rolled past Castleton 25-16, 25-15, 25-11.

Jennifer Tupper (Lamoine, Maine) added six kills in the win, while Walls collected seven service aces and Jen Vadnais (Arundel, Maine) led te team with seven digs.

Nicole Valastro helped Castleton with four kills, nine assists, four digs and a block, while Paige Lacey and Ruth Tomlinson tied for the team lead with five kills.
