Field Hockey: Farmington 4, Gordon 1
FARMINGTON – Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) scored two goals and assisted on another as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team downed Gordon College 4-1 in non-conference action today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (1-1) are scheduled to visit the University of Southern Maine at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots dropped to 0-5 and are slated to host New England College Friday.

St. Pierre opened the scoring for the Beavers 7:09 into the contest with an unassisted marker and knocked in a Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) feed with one second left to cap the victory.

The Beavers held a 2-0 lead at the break. St. Pierre set up a goal by Sara Lane (Hiram, ME) just after intermission to give the Beavers a 3-0 command.. Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) scored the other Beaver goal after finishing off a long run with a blast into the back of the cage.

Kristin Lewis (Barre, VT) scored off an assist by Wendy Redcay (Mount Joy, PA) for Gordon, which was outshot 14-8, but held a 13-11 edge in penalty-corner attempts.

Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME) collected a victory in her first collegiate start for the Beavers. The freshman stopped five shots.

Alicia L’Heureux (Dudley, MA) made eight saves for the Fighting Scots.

Men’s Soccer: Farmington 3, Machias 1
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team scored three times in the second half as the Beavers dispatched the University of Maine at Machias 3-1 in non-conference action this afternoon at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (3-0) are scheduled to visit Endicott College Tuesday, while the Clippers (0-2) are slated to visit Thomas College Sunday.

After Machias held a 1-0 edge on a Josh Gurwicz (Shelburne, VT) goal in the first half, Farmington responded with the tying score 10:30 into the second half on a Ryan Pelletier (Orrington, ME) goal. Dillon Clark (Old Town, ME) netted the game-winner at 66:44 and Sean Raph (Fairfield, ME) followed with an insurance marker on a pretty pass from Jake Constantine (Woodland, NJ) for the 3-1 win..

Paul Dupre (Rehoboth, MA) made six saves in the victory. The Beavers held a 16-12 advantage in shots.

Women’s Soccer: Farmington 4, Machias 0
FARMINGTON – Laura St. John (Wayne, ME) tallied two goals as the University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team took a 4-0 win over the University of Maine at Machias in non-conference play today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (2-0) are scheduled to host Rivier College Sunday. The Clippers dropped to 0-2 with a match versus Thomas College in Waterville Sunday.

St. John scored an unassisted goal in the opening half for a 1-0 edge for the hosts at intermission, but the Beavers blasted into the second half with three goals in the first 11:55.

Alida Peake (Penobscot, ME) scored a close-range shot off a Noelle Moulton (York, ME) tap at 47:06 for a 2-0 lead. Beth Charles (New Vineyard, ME) pushed the advantage to 3-0 at 55:15 and St. John followed 1:40 later off a Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) pass for the 4-0 difference.

McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) made two saves in 58:40 in goal for the Beavers. Crystal Johnson (Cornville, ME) finished and did not need to make a save.

Stephanie Wunderley (East Machias, ME) recorded seven saves in the loss as the Clippers were outshot 17-8.

XCountry: Farmington opens at Colby
WATERVILLE – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s cross country squad opened its season today in the Colby College Class Wave Relay Carnival.

In the women’s junior/senior event, Colby won at 25 points followed by Bates (30) and Farmington (85). Ashley Mace (York, ME) was the first Farmington finisher at 18th in 22:34.77. In the freshman/sophomore competition, Bates held off Colby (23-27) with Farmington (100) third. Melani St. Pierre (Charlestown, NH) came in 14th at 20:51.55..

In the men’s junior/senior event, Bates won with 20 points with Colby (39) second. Farmington did not have a team score with Pat Pozzetti (Portland, CT) placing 13th at 17:35.42 and Cam Fecteau (Gorham, ME) ending up 17th at 18:15.46. In the freshman/sophomore competition, Bates was first at 15 points followed by Colby (51) and the Beavers (82). Cam Betts (Gray, ME) was Farmington’s top finisher in 15th at 17:27.92.

Women’s Soccer Sunday: Rivier 2, Farmington 0
FARMINGTON – Rivier College topped University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in non-conference women’

s soccer action today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers slipped to 2-1 and are slated to visit the University of Southern Maine Tuesday, while the Raiders improved to 1-1 with a trip to Pine Manor College Wednesday.

Heather Lefebvre (Haverhill, MA) and Amy Desimone (Methuen, MA) each netted a goal for Rivier, which controlled play with a 19-5 shot advantage. Lefebvre chipped in a Emily Ingram (Litchfield, NH) pass for a 1-0 lead for the visitors at 59:09. Desimone came through with an insurance marker at 65:06 as she converted a Georgia Steese (Wilmont, NH) feed.

McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) and Crystal Johnson (Skowhegan, ME) split time in goal for Farmington with Johnson taking the loss. Barnes made three saves and Johnson five. Brittany Puleo (Hudson, NH) needed to make only one save in recording the shutout.

Women’s Golf Team
BRUNSWICK – The University of Maine at Farmingtom women’s golf team competed at the Bowdoin Blast at Brunswick Golf Club today.

Bowdoin won the event with 384 followed by Bates (414). Farmington and St. Anselm also competed, but did not have team scores.

The Beavers were led by Merissa Beaulieu (North Monmouth, ME) in fifth place at 96 with teammate Patricia Camp (Walton, IN) just behind in sixth at 98.

Bowdoin’s Mimi Neal was the top medalist at 90.
