BANGOR – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball squad remained undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference with a 76-70 victory over Husson University Tuesday night.

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) led the Beavers with 20 points as Farmington ran its record to 6-8 overall and 4-0 in the NAC with Johnson State at home on Friday. Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) pitched in 17 points and seven rebounds in the win, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) added 16 points (14 in the second half). Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) recorded seven assists.

Caitlyn Laflin is 4 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone.

Laflin sits at 996 points for her career at Farmington, four points away from becoming the 14th player in the program’s history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Shelby Bradford scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Eagles with Bethany Sevey and Ashley Bragdon each chipping in 13 points.

With the game tied at 62-62 with four minutes to play, Busque drilled a 3-pointer to give the Beavers the lead for good at 65-62. The Eagles trimmed the deficit down to a single point with under two minutes to play, but threes by Laflin and Porter helped Farmington distance itself from the hosts with a 74-67 command with 29 seconds remaining on its way to the 76-70 win.

The Beavers seized control early in the contest, behind 11 first-half points by Laflin, to hold a 34-21 advantage with 3:21 until intermission, but Husson reeled off the frame’s final 13 points — capped by a Bradford three-point play — to tie the contest at 34-34 at halftime. Farmington rolled out to a 49-42 lead after the break before the contest settled into a see-saw affair (five ties) and the Beavers finished the game off down the stretch.
