JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State dropped a North Atlantic Conference women’s soccer contest on Saturday at Mineart Field to the University of Maine at Farmington, 0-2. The win pushed UMF to 4-7-1 overall, and 1-2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. The loss drops Johnson State to 5-5, 0-3 in the NAC.

The visiting Beavers struck in the first half when Beth Charles (New Vineyard, ME) took a pass from Renee Brown (Schenectady, NY) and beat Johnson keeper Morgan Solomon (Cavendish, VT/Green Mountain) at the 10:09 mark.

Farmington would double the score in the second half when Katie Cray (Richmond, ME) took the ball first time on a service from Leigh Ronald (Farmington, ME) and slotted it home against Solomon.
A big play in the game came early in the first half when a foul on a UMF defender put Johnson’s Emily Hassard (Montpelier, Vt.) alone in the box for a penalty kick but McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) dove to her left to make a huge stop for the Beavers. The stop seemed a shot of adrenaline for Farmington and fueled the team throughout the remainder of the contest.

Both keepers were strong throughout with Solomon making five saves and Barnes recording one stop.
Farmington will travel to Lyndon State on Sunday. Oct. 11 in a North Atlantic Conference contest at noon.
