American Sign Language program bringing acclaimed mime to high school on April 11

FARMINGTON – On April 11, 2014; the Mt. Blue Campus ASL students will invite family, friends and friends of friends from both the hearing and deaf communities to join them in a fun-filled, awe-inspiring event – The first Mt. Blue “M.A.D. Experience” (M.A.D. = Mt. Blue ASL Day), featuring students and special guest, JJ Jones.

This event is about building bridges between the Deaf and hearing communities to help develop awareness of Deaf Culture. This immersion experience will bring the two communities together by way of ASL (American Sign Language), the “Soul of the Deaf Community.”

“JJ” Jones was born deaf, and discovered “pantomime” at an early age by watching the Red Skeleton Show. His first miming performance was at age 10. “JJ” learned more mime just before he graduated from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (N.T.I.D.) in Rochester NY. “JJ” performs mime programs ranging from street mime to multimedia presentations. He has also performed all over the USA and Paris, France at many different schools, State Fairs, and Deaf events. For more information on “JJ” please visit his website at www.jjmime.com

This will be a two-part show featuring ASL students (Levels 1 & 2) performing songs in ASL in the first half of the event, than special guest, “JJ” Jones will perform a one hour mime show for an audience of all ages. Cost of admission is $5 at the door, Place: Bjorn Auditorium, Mt. Blue Campus located at 129 Seamons Rd., Farmington, Maine. The show will start at 6 p.m., and doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
