TEMPLE – The Sandy River Players of Farmington are inviting audiences to enjoy the experience of “Comedy and Cocktails,” a readers theatre performance presented by an ensemble cast of 12 at the Temple Stream Theatre. The concept of the play is a cocktail party to which the audience has been invited.

“The intimacy of the Temple Stream Theatre is perfect to give the audience the feeling that they are guests who are sharing in the conversations with the actor guests,” says director Robin Lisherness of Strong.  “The actors will be reading comic short stories, essays, scenes from plays, even poems that will represent the stories that are shared at a typical party in a typical living room. And the audience, if they choose, may purchase cocktails at a cash bar catered by The Company Restaurant before the play and during intermission.”

“Comedy and Cocktails” will run Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 16, 17, and 18 with a 7:30 curtain, and on Sunday, June 19, starting at 2:00. Admission is $10 for all seats, and fathers get in for half price on June 19, which is Father’s Day. Lisherness says that the play is best suited for mature audiences.

The cast is an accomplished group of actors well-known to Sandy River Players audiences. Cyndy and Paul Stancioff of Chesterville will act as the party’s hosts. They will welcome to their home for an evening of witty storytelling Lisa and Michael Fraley and Allan Smith of Farmington, Deb Mason of Wilton, Dan Robbins of Belgrade Lakes, Mark Lemos of Durham, and Tracy Lord and Stephen Hobbs of Hope. The maid and the bartender will be played by Karen West and Matt Black of Farmington.

Sandy River Players will be performing their next play at the Temple Stream Theater. Stephen Hobbs and Karen Smith are seen moving set pieces from the SRP Playhouse in West Farmington into the Temple theatre in preparation for next week's performances.

Seating at the theatre is limited to about 60 seats. Reservations can be made by calling 779-7084 (corrected). For those who are unfamiliar with the theatre, directions are quite simple. Follow Route 43 straight out of West Farmington, and continue onto the Intervale Road. The theatre is located in an old converted church on the right side of the road, about 6 miles from Madore’s Corner Store in West Farmington.
