Local community access director to serve on Alliance for Community Media

FARMINGTON – JP Fortier, Executive Director for Mt. Blue Community Access TV (MBTV), was installed onto the board of directors of the Alliance for Community Media – Northeast Region on October 6, 2011 in Shrewsbury, MA. JP serves with another Maine Board member, Sally Hebert, of Greene. He represents the interests of community television in Maine and brings his many years of experience and knowledge to the Alliance. The Northeast Region encompasses Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Nancy Richard, Executive Director, of Plymouth, MA PACTV and Board Chair of the Alliance for Community Media – Northeast Region, says, “The Northeast Region is delighted to have another member from Maine on our board, especially one of JP’s caliber. As an organization that links access centers together across New England and New York, the Northeast Region plays an important role in strengthening access through professional training and advocacy. Having hardworking and committed board members is key to the organization’s success, and JP fits in perfectly.”

The mission of the Alliance for Community Media is to advance democratic ideals by ensuring that people have access to electronic media and by promoting effective communication through community uses of media. The Alliance for Community Media was founded in 1976. The Alliance represents over 3,000 Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access organizations and community media centers throughout the country. The ACM works to protect the interests of these access centers and those who use PEG facilities and equipment to advance their causes through cable television and the Internet. The goal of the organization is to further the Alliance for Community Media priorities at the regional level.

JP has served as Executive Director for Mt. Blue TV for the past 11 years. Through years of hard work and dedication, JP has built MBTV from a one-room location in the basement of the Farmington Recreation Center to a high tech, fully equipped and operational television studio at Merrill Hall, UMF. MBTV offers citizens of the Farmington & Wilton area locally produced television programming on channel 11 on the Bee Line Cable TV Network. For more information please visit www.mtbluetv.org.

  1. JP is a real leader in the field and has great vision for Mt. Blue TV and it’s place in improving the communities of Farmington and Wilton. He is a tremendous video editor, and for the last four years, has been a great boss. Congratulations JP, I will definitely miss working for you after this year!
