PHILLIPS – The owners of a historic building on Main Street have been working hard to transform the 1867 church into a multi-dealer antique shop in time for the grand opening this Saturday.
Todd and Becky Olson have spent the past year renovating the Old Methodist Church at 83 Main Street. Civil War reenactors and history buffs, they’ve been careful to maintain some of the building’s most distinctive elements, such as the stained glass windows, while adding their own touches. The entryway will be lined with the pictures and stories, for example, to share the history of the church with all patrons.
the Olsons intend to operate three small businesses out of the church, all of them relating to antiques or locally-crafted items. The Little White Church Antiques and More will offer rental space for dealers and vendors. The building will also feature the Olson’s 11-year-old Tophat’s Sutlery, which markets Civil War reproduction items.
A third business will also be included. Mountain Hardstock, a shop featuring Maine mountain made items, will be owned and operated by Pam Matthews.
A grand opening for the refurbished church will take place at 83 Main Street in Phillips on Saturday, June 9 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Free hot dogs, sodas and other refreshments will be served while they last.
The Little White Church Antiques and More, Tophat’s Sutlery, and Mountain Hardstock will then be open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm until the end of October.
