RSU Spruce Mountain Adult & Community Education announces summer courses

JAY – Do you need a credit recovery class? Would you like help with your computer or would you like to learn more about computers? Are you working on your GED? If any of these apply to you, RSU 73 Spruce Mountain Adult and Community Education is the place for you. All classes will be held at the Adult Learning Center at 13 Community Drive.

July 9 through August 2, two six-week credit recovery classes will be offered at no cost to current high school students

MAINE LITERATURE (CREDIT RECOVERY): Maine has a rich literary history. Join us in discovering some Maine authors. Some you may already know and some you may not. Steven King, of course, will be included. In this course we will explore the fundamentals of literature using a variety of media. Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 12 noon.

ALGEBRA/GEOMETRY/BASIC MATH (CREDIT RECOVERY): This class will consist of a three-hour daily class, four days per week for six weeks. Individualized instruction will enable each student to earn a credit for the course not passed during the academic year. Basic Math, Algebra & Geometry will be taught on an individualized basis determined by the needs of each student. Both class and homework will be required. Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 12 noon.
The following classes will prepare you to take the GED test.

PM TUESDAY MATH REVIEW AND PREP: This math class is intended to prepare the student to take and pass the GED test and in general tutor math students at all levels. An individualized program will enable each student to work at their own pace and advance their learning as they master each level. Class starts July 10 and runs through August 17 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

PM THURSDAY MATH REVIEW AND PREP: This math class is intended to prepare the student to take and pass the GED test and in general tutor math students at all levels. An individualized program will enable each student to work at their own pace and advance as they master each level. Class starts July 12 and runs through August 17 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

GED PREP: These classes will prepare the student for the GED in writing and math. The basic English class will include sentence structure, organization, usage, and mechanics. Students will be assessed periodically and will be given the GED test when ready. This basic math class will review all areas of the GED including number operations, measurement and data analysis, algebra, and geometry. Students will be assessed periodically prior to taking the final GED. Class will held from 9 am to 12 noon Monday through Thursday starting July 9 through August 17.

COMPUTER CLASSES:
BASIC COMPUTERS: Never used a computer? If so, this class is for you. No skills are required. You will learn basic computer skills over a six-week period. This class will meet on Tuesday’s from 1 pm to 5 pm starting July 10 through August 17.

COMPUTER TUTOR: THIS CLASS IS FOR THE COMMUNITY – AND OPEN TO EVERYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE THEIR TECHNOLOGY SKILLS.
Do you have trouble getting to a computer? Do you have trouble formatting documents? Would you like to have help with any computer problem? Do you need to update your resume or cover letter? If the answer is yes, then this lab is for you. Students will work at their own pace with assistance when needed. This class will meet on Thursday’s from 1 pm to 5 pm starting July 12 through August 17. Career preparation classes will be offered to anyone wanting to brush up on writing skills, job search skills, or updating resumes.

CAREER PREPARATION: Plan your next career move with a personal plan that meets your needs in today’s economy. In this 6-week class, you will review skills, interests, and experiences and relate them to career options; resumes and cover letters are just two of the important aspects of career preparation that will be covered. By the end of 6 weeks, you will have developed a step-by-step plan to achieve your career goals. This class will meet on Tuesday’s from 1 pm to 5 pm starting July 10 through August 14.

WRITING IN THE WORKPLACE: Learn the writing skills critical for success in any workplace. You will review English grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, punctuation and capitalization. Learn to utilize the computer to plan and draft business correspondence in a clear and concise manner. Create letters, reports, and memos to persuade, inform, and request. E-mail and texting will be included as part of this class. This class will meet on Wednesday’s from 1 pm to 5 pm starting July 11 through August 15.

  1. I would like to take GED Prep. Need to work on my language skils, reading, math, sience, and etc.

    I’ve been in this country many years ago, but, never taken any classes what so ever. I finished 6 grade that’s about it. My language skills is very poor. Have a hard time understanding math at all, so if you could please someone help me! I am willing to learn to the best i can.
