The Baker's Market Café owner Betty Shibles, at right last summer, plans to keep the café open through the winter with an expanded menu and several events scheduled.

WILTON – The Baker’s Market Café owner, Betty Shibles, wants to give winter a chance at her café on Main Street in Wilton. With new insulation, a renovated kitchen, a new baker, and ideas for eat-in or take-out dishes, she is ready to take on Old Man Winter. All she needs are those who will shake off the cold and enter the warm and cozy café for something a little bit special, different, and delicious.

New offerings include: Stuffed baked potatoes, chicken pot pies, hearty stews, steaming soups and chowders and delicious popovers.

The café is open Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., local bakers will continue to bring those popular cinnamon and maple sticks, filled cookies, and the Marble Family wheat breads. The Sing to Me Series has become very popular twice a month on Friday nights. Come  for chowder and popovers from 6 -7 p.m. and listen to local singers until 8:30 p.m. (Call 645-7107 for reservations.) The Library Book Club has resumed and will meet the Third Thursday every month. The next one will be Thursday, Oct. 20. Bring the book you are reading and share it with us.

A new program this fall is ABC, After Baby Comes. Young mothers and their little ones are invited to come together at the café for coffee and doughnut once a week, each Wednesday, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

“The Baker’s Market Café has become a wonderful gathering place for Wilton residents and for those from surrounding towns. We continue to offer a warm and hearty breakfast, especially on Saturday, and the chicken salad sandwich with cranberry is a favorite of many as they enjoy a half a sandwich and a cup of hot soup over a leisure lunch,” Shibles said. Delivery is available, given notice.

“We tell people we have visitors from all over the world and we do. So we invite everyone to visit us, enjoy the homemade cooking and meet family and friends during the coming months at the little café in downtown Wilton,” Shibles said.
