Blue area Garden Club is pleased to welcome Gary Fish, the Maine State Horticulturist to speak at our 12:30 pm, April 19 meeting held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Farmington Falls, Farmington. He will present "Beetles, Bittersweet, and Buckthorn, OH MY!", focusing on invasive pests in our gardens and forests. A social half hour, prior to the program with light refreshments will be hosted by Tom Saviello, Peg Lang and Amy Palmer. The speaker will begin after a brief business meeting at 1:00.  All are welcome to attend. Current CDC COVID protocol will be followed. Gary grew up

Managing Field Lands for Grassland Birds and Soils for Forever Chemicals

The Phillips Public Library Seed Loan Project presents - Laura Suomi-Lecker is the technical manager of the Ag Allies statewide grassland bird habitat project. She will discuss Maine's grassland-dependent bird species and their conservation, as well as best management practices to improve grassland habitat while maintaining sustainable hay crops. Richard Kersbergen is the Extension Professor for Sustainable Dairy and Forage Systems with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. He will talk about Forever Chemicals (PFAS) – what they are and how they found their way into our farm fields, water supplies, and food. This presentation and use of the Library

Town of Starks Appeals Board Hearing

The Appeals Board will have a public hearing on a request from New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) for an extension variance of their Site Plan and Shoreland Zoning Project in Starks. This variance would grant an 18 month  extension until December 2, 2023. Summary: The Site Plan Review Ordinance limits the duration of the Site Plan Approvals to an initial twelve months and two 6 month extensions.  NECEC Transmission, LLC would like an additional 18 month  extension until December 2, 2023 due to issues beyond their control.  Questions/concerns can be sent to townofstarks@gmail.com with Appeals Board – NECEC Variance

Earth Day Volunteer Cleanup

The 9th annual Farmington Earth Day Volunteer Cleanup is being held on Friday April 22nd from 1-3PM. Everyone is welcome to participate: individuals, groups, young and old. Meet at the Pierce House lawn on 204 Main Street anytime between 1 and 3pm. Cleanup for as long as you want. Bags and gloves are provided by the Farmington Public Works Department. UMF Community Chorus Concert
