A doggone perfect day at the races

Brian Harper of Norway, brings his dogs across the finish line at Farmington's 7th annual Dog Sled race today. The action continues tomorrow beginning 9 a.m. at Bussie and Brenda York's fields on the Farmington Falls Road. The event, sponsored by the Downeast Sled Dog Club and local mushers, include four- and six-dog professional teams vying for a purse of $1,300. Teams with three, four, or six dogs will run both days, as well as a one- and three-dog event for junior racers.

Alex Thomas, 15, of Blanchard, races his grandfather's team of registered Siberian huskies at today's dog sled races held in Farmington. Thomas, who has been racing since he was 10 years old, said the course conditions were good today under clear blue skies and temperatures in the low 30s.
These dogs not-so-quietly wait their turn to race.

  2. Was just doing a search and delighted to find this picture.
    I am a novice at the sport but absolutely love being out with the dogs on a day like today.
    I am so grateful that so many people give to freely of their time to make these events possible.
    Anyone who has skijored knows why this is one of the fastest growing participant sports in the US.
