NEW YORK, NY – “Recently Paul Mills and I decided to take a weekend trip to NYC. We scheduled it this particular weekend (Dec 4 and 5) to take advantage of a big art sale that was happening at the National Museum of the American Indian, figuring out after we had made arrangements that it was the same weekend as the Chester Greenwood festivities.

“Also, since I am helping out with the Interact Club (the Mt. Blue High School branch of the local Rotary Club) and Pauline Rodrigue is the club advisor, and the club members were participating in the parade, I wrote to Pauline and expressed disappointment at missing the Chester Greenwood activities in Farmington. She emailed back and told me that her son belonged to a group of Mt. Blue alum who got together every year in New York City and celebrate Chester Greenwood Day. Since that was where we were coincidentally going to be, she gave us the logistical information of this little get-together, and on Saturday night we tracked down the Black Bear Lodge (a local rustic watering hole on 3rd Street in lower Manhattan). Sure enough, we found a half dozen or so Farmington folks wearing ear muffs and toasting to the memory of Mr. Greenwood. (They were pretty surprised to see us there).”

  1. I even sported my earmuffs out here in Tacoma Washington on saturday as I went and cut down a christmas tree! Thank you Chester Greenwood for the wonderful invention… :)

  2. I wish I’d known about this. My daughter lives in Manhattan and I’m sure would have like to go. She graduated from MBHS in the early 90’s.

  3. Correction, the Black Bear Lodge is on 3rd AVE, not 3rd St (it’s between 21st and 22nd St)
