CHESTERVILLE – Maine State Police are investigating a hit and run accident reported on Zion Hill Road in Chesterville on Saturday.
David Tilton, who lives on Zion Hill Road and often rides his three-wheeled bike to pick up road-side trash, was supposedly hit by a truck which then kept on going. Tilton suffered only minor injuries, however his bike was totaled after colliding with a nearby telephone pole.
Residents of the town quickly rallied to replace Tilton’s bicycle- noting his kind, consistent presence in the neighborhood.
According to the Chesterville Residents Facebook page, Norman and Carroll Corbin orchestrated getting Tilton the new bike and plans are in the works to replace the destroyed trailer that he towed behind for the collected trash.

I am so glad you did this for Dave, a lot of people don’t understand why he collects cans and bottles but it is rewarding to him, as most people in Chesterville know my brother Terry loves to ride his bike to find them too. Allison, my neighbor is building David a new trailer and basket for his new trike, he currently lives in Connecticut but is here on weekends. His address is 144 Zions hill Rd. Stop by this weekend and see him.

A lady said on tv that the truck was” black and made black smoke”sounds like a Diesel which narrows the search.Really sad thing to have happen in Maine. Hope the police can find the person who was driving the truck.

So glad there are good neighbors for David. How terrible for someone to hit him and drive away. I hope they get caught.
I took that picture of David just minutes after delivering him that trike with my father, never even thought one day a picture i took would be on a news article so I’m feeling pretty proud of my self tonight after seeing this. David is a great guy and has done so much for the town of chesterville and even gets in to surrounding towns, another new chesterville resident is building David a new trailer and large basket and has even found him another trike that’s the same as his old one.
Somebody get that man a reflective vest!
David wears a reflective jacket, and has a big orange flag that was attached to his old buggy. I’m glad he’s okay, Im pretty interested to find out who hit him…
