Chief Caton remembered for 30 years of service

1 min read

Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck hands Melinda Caton a plaque of Chief Richard Caton III’s career of officer shields during a gathering held today to mark what would have been Chief Caton’s anniversary of 30 years of service to the town of Farmington. Caton, 52, died of complications due to leukemia on July 18. Peck was sworn in as chief last week. Town Manager Richard Davis, left of Peck, told the crowd of 50 or more family, friends, co-workers and colleagues, it was just five years ago when a similar gathering was held to celebrate Caton’s 25th year with the department. He added that today’s gathering will, “help us to heal.”

After presenting Melinda Caton with her husband’s officer shields encased in a plaque, Police Chief Jack Peck gives her a hug. There were few dry eyes during the short gathering to remember what would have been the late Richard Caton III’s 30th year anniversary of service to the town of Farmington. State Rep. Tom Saviello read a memoriam issued by the Legislature and Andrea Quaid, an aide to U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud, read a letter from the congressman remembering Caton for his years of dedicated service to his community and the Farmington Police Department.

  1. Richard Caton was a wonderful and dedicated man to his community and family. He will always be remembered and have a special place in my heart for all he did for the town of Farmington. Jack Peck is alot like Richard Caton and is doing a great job for the town of Farmington. Recently when I spoke to jack about a case he and his officers promised and said there would be an arrest by night and they did as stated and arrested all three involved in the case and they remain behind bars still. All the officers and Chief Peck should be commended for the great work they did aand continue to do each and everyday for this community to keep it safe
