WILTON – A New Vineyard man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on the Wilton Road Saturday night, after his motorcycle struck a sedan.

Wayne Fletcher, 28, of New Vineyard, was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue workers, after his Suzuki motorcycle collided with a Ford Contour operated by Stacey Reeves, 21, of Livermore Falls.

At 9:43 p.m., police received reports of a motor vehicle accident on Route 2, near the Big Apple convenience store at the Monson Road intersection. Wilton Police Department personnel responded along with Wilton Fire & Rescue and NorthStar EMS ambulances. The Jay Police Department and fire department personnel also assisted with traffic control, as did the East Dixfield Fire Department.

Police believe that Fletcher was operating the motorcycle and traveling westbound on Route 2 when it collided with the sedan. Reeves was traveling eastbound and was turning left into the Big Apple when the crash occurred. The motorcycle reportedly crashed into the passenger side of the Ford Contour. Reeves was not injured in the crash.

The lead investigator of the crash is Wilton Officer Nicholas Oettinger, who is assisted by Maine State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department personnel. All of those involved in the crash were tested for drugs and alcohol, as is standard in serious collisions. The accident remains under investigation.

  1. So much activity at this particular piece of road. Route 2/4 traffic east and west, cross over on the Munson Road, entrance and exit from the Big Apple, a right lane going east to allow traffic to turn and speeding vehicles. Just below on Route 2/4 there is the infamous Dryden deathtrap and then on Route 2 there is the crossover from the Maxwell Road. Not sure the state engineers have looked at these areas to design a better situation. Anyway, another family has to bury a family member…such a loss and God Bless all involved.
