Day hike in the Bigelows

STRATTON – In need of some wilderness and exercise, I spent the day hiking in the Bigelow Preserve on Saturday. It may have been warm in town, but on Bigelow Mountain, it was winter. There was a stiff breeze and the temps were in the upper 20s with about 3 inches of fresh snow. Until the last two miles of my hike, I did not see any other humans or human tracks. There were plenty of other tracks, however, black bear, bobcat, partridge and more. The icicles that formed are beautiful.

  1. Very nice capture of early Winter outdoor scenery. I really like the “nice ice” pics. If I were only 20 years younger to be able to retrace your steps!!!

  2. Gorgeous photos! Makes me really miss the Western Maine Mountains, now that I live in La-La-Land. ( Virginia, not too far from DC). It reminds me of our family’s backpacking trips on the AT 15 years ago.
It was 70 degrees here yesterday and I am hoping the moderate weather continues for 3, day hikes on the A.T. off Skyline Drive this weekend. Being in Nature is so healing…. Marni Lawson, self appointed famous watercolor artist.

  3. NICE PHOTOS,,,THANKS!!!

I cant hike anymore due to bad knees so these pictures brought back some good memories of time spent in the Bigelow Range,,,,,,,,,

To Everyone,,,,,,,,,,HIKE WHILE YA STILL CAN……….(you never know when an injury might take it away)….

    GET OUT THERE!!!

  4. Thank you so much Stephen!! I am so grateful, especially since memories are all I have left. I am not only imobiled, but also legally blind from diabetes. Thank goodness for computers where I can enlarge anything as big as need be. I shall treasure and review these pictures many times over the coming months and years down here in Maryland with many other Mainers and New Englanders. I have not been in the Bigelow Range since I was a teenager! The longer I am away from Maine, the more I miss home!!. Thank you for these marvelous pics!! Keep on trekkin’. :D
