VIENNA – Police believe excessive speed was one factor in a single-vehicle crash on the Tower Road this morning, which resulted in the death of a Farmington Falls woman.
Hilda Howe, 36, of Farmington Falls was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash Wednesday morning, after the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer she was operating left the roadway and overturned several times before coming to rest against trees off the Tower Road.
According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, Howe lost control of the vehicle just after midnight. Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance, who is investigating the crash, believes Howe was not wearing her seat belt and was thrown from her vehicle as the SUV overturned.
No one else was believed to have been inside the Mountaineer and no other vehicles were involved. The Vienna Fire Department and Mt. Vernon Rescue Department assisted troopers at the scene.
McCausland said that Perkins-Vance is continuing the investigation and is currently seeking anyone with information about where Howe was Tuesday evening, prior to the crash.
