Farmington Post Office on 9/11/2009

1 min read

Two groups of residents gathered outside of the local post office today. To the left of the picture are members of the Roderick-Crosby American Legion Post #28 and others, while to the right are members of the “Women in Black” and “Veterans for Peace” organizations. The American flag on the flagpole is at half-staff in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

  1. I think this says quite a bit about life in Maine. The two groups are quietly letting their opinions be known, without threatening or trying to out-shout each other. Of course, it also says quite a bit about living in the U.S. where both groups can state their respective cases without fear of government reprisal.

  2. They were side by side as Americans. That’s what’s cool. They don’t have to blindly agree with each other, but can express their informed opinions. Those are the freedoms we all want protected.
