FARMINGTON – A local resident’s face is appearing on milk cartons across the country. In this case, that’s a good thing.

Hardy Farm, on the Weeks Mills Road, has provided organic milk to Horizon, a national distribution company that sells milk, yogurt, butter, cheese and other dairy products, since 2003. Horizon, which was founded in 1991, utilizes more than 500 family farms for nearly 90 percent of its milk.
Hardy said that he had previously appeared in a calendar put together by the company, and had been asked by Horizon representatives if he’d like to appear on a carton.
“They said they wanted reputable dairies to represent them,” Hardy recalled. “It was being at the right place at the right time, I guess.”
Horizon sent a photographer to Hardy Farm, which has operated off the Weeks Mills Road since 1953, and took pictures of Hardy with some of the farm’s 80 cows. A few weeks later, people from California to Colorado were calling in to report that they’d seen Hardy’s likeness on cartons of Horizon Organic Skim Milk.
The carton includes the picture and a quote by Hardy.
“The fun stuff is getting up in the morning,” it reads, in part, “breathing nice, fresh air and working with animals. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.”
Hardy joked that he wasn’t going to let the fame go to his head.
“I was glad to do it,” he said, “but I’m not going around bragging about it.”
It’s nice to see hard working families be recognized for their work.
Henry’s a nice fella he deserves the good publicity. He should be proud he has certainly worked hard and earned it. Good job Jack!
