[Update 3 p.m.] CARTHAGE – More details about the arrest of Derell Guy have been released by the Maine State Police.
According to Maine State Police spokesperson Katharine England, Wilton police stopped a vehicle on Route 2 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday morning. Guy, reportedly a passenger in that vehicle, fled on foot into the woods. He remained at large overnight.
At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, MSP received information regarding a sighting of Guy behind a residence on Earth Way in Carthage. A number of law enforcement agencies arrived in that area and a K-9 track led the MSP Tactical Team to Guy, where he was arrested without further incident. He was located on the Winter Hill Road in Carthage, roughly 6 miles from where the initial traffic stop took place.
Guy has been transported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. It is expected that the U.S. Marshals Service will charge him with being a fugitive from justice in advance of eventual extradition back to Massachusetts.
“We would like to thank the members within the surrounding communities for their continued support and the ongoing information that was provided,” England said as part of the statement.
Participating agencies in the search for Guy included Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Maine Forest Service, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Wilton Police Department, Department of Corrections, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Marshals Service, as well as the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Maine State Police Crisis Negotiation Team.
A man on the Massachusetts State Police Most Wanted List sought in connection to the shooting death of a Mass. resident earlier this year was arrested without incident today, according to a Maine State Police spokesperson.
A warrant was issued for Derell Guy, 34 of Lynn, Mass. in relation to an incident that occurred on Jan. 4 in Lynn. Local police responded to a call of shots fired and discovered a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound. That man, Bryan Omar Mendez of Worcester, Mass., was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Following an investigation by Lynn and the Massachusetts State Police, a warrant was issued out of Lynn District Court for Derell on the charges of murder and armed robbery.
Local police began searching for Guy Monday morning in the vicinity of Route 2 and the Walker Hill Road, with Wilton police asking residents to lock their doors and remove keys from their vehicles.
Maine State Police spokesperson Katharine England reported Tuesday afternoon that Guy had been arrested without incident. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office indicated on its Facebook page that Guy was arrested in Carthage.
