NEW SHARON – A “shelf-decoration,” accordion-style Christmas story was locally published and released last week, just in time for the holidays, was written by Kevin McShane.

The Little Rabbits and the Fir Tree is a story about a Christmas tree that’s cut down and left in the woods. The rabbits find it and adopt it as their own.

“It’s a shelf decoration, that’s meant to be put on a mantle or on the tree, but it also has the story written on it,” said McShane of New Sharon.

As a retired special education teacher and grandfather of two, for McShane, writing a story seemed natural.

“There’s no such thing as writer’s block for me, especially for such a fun project as this was,” he said.

The story, published by Franklin Printing, a publishing house in Farmington, is available to purchase on his ETSY page, an online marketplace. Eddie Vincent, also of New Sharon, provided the graphic design work, and Kristina Young took the storyboard and completed the art work.

“I have another children’s book that’s completed. We’re working on making it an Itunes ap. It’s about a goldfish who thinks his bowl is a huge world, but in reality he’s in a bowl inside a room,” McShane said.

His goal with The Little Rabbits and the Fir Tree is for it to become a series, with one published every year.
