FARMINGTON – A fire resulted in fire, smoke and water damage to a Fairbanks-area home Sunday evening, after the residents called the local department.

Firefighters were able to contain a ceiling blaze at 130 Barlen Street within a few minutes of arrival, and remained on scene for two hours after receiving the call at 10:48 p.m. The building, reportedly owned by Pamela Powers, was occupied at the time of the fire, although no injuries were reported.

According to Farmington Fire Rescue Chief Terry Bell, the department believes the fire started at a combination ceiling fan/lighting fixture. The Farmington department responded, sending several pieces of equipment, and were successful in containing the blaze without extensive structural damage to the building. However, Bell believed that fire did scorch several rafters, as well as result in some water and smoke damage. The department did not have a dollar amount for the damage.
