A break-in at Rick’s Market under investigation

1 min read

WILTON – Police are searching for a man caught on video reportedly breaking into a local convenience store at the intersection of Depot Street and Route 2. A police officer responded to the store’s alarm at 3:38 Wednesday morning and found a smashed-in front glass door and a damaged cash register.

A store video recorded the event, said Police Chief Dennis Brown. The film reportedly shows a white male about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds approaching the front door. He is wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, blue jeans and a baseball hat.

“He smashes out the window and proceeds into the store,” according to a police statement. “The suspect jumps the counter and begins an attempt to force open the cash register. He stops and runs out the door. The officer arrives shortly afterwards.”

During the investigation, a tan late 1980s or early ’90s Ford truck was seen by a witness in the area at the time of the break-in. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Lt. Reynolds of the Wilton Police Department at 207-645-3876.

The market was open this morning, with a glass company busy replacing the door. Clerks were ringing up purchases at the market having to calculate the price totals in their heads because the cash register had been broken. They added that no money appeared to be taken.
