I looked in my Peterson Field Guide to Eastern Butterflies by Paul A. Opler and Vichai Malikul, and based on the exquisite picture posted here, I am calling the butterfly A “Compton Tortoise Shell” – a member of the Brushfoot family. What so other readers say?
