EAST DIXFIELD – The State Police Bomb Squad was called to investigate a suspicious package discovered at the Post Office this morning.

Wilton Police Officer Timothy Coombs arrived at the East Dixfield Post Office at 10 a.m. after a report was received about a package left outside the building. Coombs “evaluated the package and secured the area,” according to police. Police Chief Dennis Brown also responded and determined that the bomb specialists should be called to investigate the package.

The bomb squad arrived at 1 p.m. and “x-rayed the package and determined it was a fake.” The officers canvassed the area and the incident remains under investigation.

Later, Coombs said, “The package contained some electronics which were deemed harmless by the Maine State Bomb Team.”

The Wilton Police Department urges anyone with information about the package to contact the Wilton Police immediately at 645-4222. The Dixfield Police Department assisted on scene.
